Taattva: Merging Tradition with Modernity in Wall Decor and Home Furnishing
In the world of home decor, there is a growing trend of combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Taattva, a brand specializing in wall and tabletop decor, has perfected this approach by blending the timeless appeal of brass and wood with modern boho and vintage styles. Since its establishment, Taattva has gained a global following by offering unique pieces that redefine the way spaces are styled.
The Inception of Taattva
Tatva was founded in 2018 by Suvomita Dutta, with her husband Krishnendu Dutta joining as a co-founder. Initially, the brand started as a small-scale venture, supplying handcrafted decor items to websites like Jaypore.com. The positive response led to the establishment of Taattva as a brand in its own right. The unique approach of merging brass and wood into exquisite wall decor and tabletop sets Taattva apart from traditional decor brands. Suvomita’s vision to infuse a boho and distressed yet modern touch into every piece has made Taattva a favourite among those looking for something unique in their homes.
One of the brand’s standout offerings is the concept of gallery walls. Traditionally, gallery walls were dominated by frames and paintings. Taattva expanded this idea by creating handcrafted compositions that blend religious and non-religious elements, turning them into statement pieces in homes and even puja rooms. By sourcing wood from Jodhpur, Andhra and Tamil Nadu and brass from Aligarah, Odissa and Karaikuri, Taattva’s designs offer an eclectic mix that appeals to a broad clientele, both in India and abroad.
A Journey of Resilience
Taattva, like any startup, faced its fair share of challenges. The biggest setback came in August 2021 when their Instagram account, which was the main source of client interaction and had over 26,000 followers, was hacked and deleted. However, Suvomita and Krishnendu bounced back by rebuilding their online presence from scratch. Their resilience paid off, and today, Taattva enjoys a strong following once again.
Starting Taattva slowly allowed the founders to manage risks effectively. A background in advertising, helps them navigate the business landscape, even when it involved entering a new domain like home decor. Despite the difficulties, the COVID-19 pandemic turned out to be a surprising boon for the brand. As people spent more time at home, the demand for home decor surged, and Taattva became the main source of income for the founders, solidifying its place in the market.
A Niche Future with Global Aspirations
Taattva has a mission to maintain its unique appeal by focusing on quality, one-of-a-kind designs, and handcrafted products, instead of mass production. The brand has a strong customer base in the United States and Europe and is gaining popularity in India, particularly in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. With over 5,000 orders served, Taattva continues to make its mark in the home decor industry.
Over the next five years, Taattva aims to enhance its brand perception and continue offering exclusive decor items that resonate with its audience. While the focus remains on creating unique, high-quality pieces, the brand also aspires to be a leader in the art and sculpture category, maintaining its status as a top player in the niche market of home decor.
