Shreeji Hastakala: A Journey from Crisis to Creativity
Shreeji Hastakala, founded by the young and ambitious Kartik, is a startup that brings the ancient art of handblock printing into contemporary fashion. Launched on July 18, 2022, the company offers a range of beautifully crafted products, including sarees, dupattas, dresses, and bedsheets. Each item is uniquely made using a traditional mud-resist technique known as “Dabu,” which utilizes a mixture of desert sands to create intricate, mud-colored block prints on fabric. This artisanal process not only preserves a piece of cultural heritage but also offers customers unique, handcrafted textiles that stand out in the market.
From Family Struggles to Entrepreneurial Success
Kartik’s journey as an entrepreneur began at the young age of 16. Motivated by the desire to support his family during the financial hardships brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, he embarked on a courageous path. When his father’s earnings were tied up with Fab India, Kartik made a bold decision. He borrowed ₹2800 from his mother and founded Shreeji Hastakala, turning a challenging situation into an opportunity for innovation and progress. Initially, the business faced a slow start, with no orders for the first three to four months. However, Kartik’s unwavering determination eventually paid off, and he has since fulfilled 349 orders, experiencing significant growth.
Vision for the Future
Kartik’s vision for Shreeji Hastakala goes beyond personal success. He aims to provide employment for at least 100 people, expanding from his current team of 13 employees. His mission includes opening his own showroom, moving operations from his home to a dedicated retail space. Looking ahead, Kartik envisions Shreeji Hastakala reaching an international audience, establishing a global presence that shares the beauty of traditional Indian craftsmanship with the world. With passion and determination, Kartik is not only creating exquisite fabrics but also weaving a future of opportunity and growth for his community.
Shreeji Hastakala embodies resilience and creativity, demonstrating how traditional arts can be revived through modern entrepreneurship. Kartik’s journey from a 16-year-old facing financial struggles to the founder of a thriving startup is an inspiring tale of innovation and commitment. By preserving the ancient art of Dabu printing and offering unique, handcrafted products, Shreeji Hastakala not only enriches the tapestry of Indian heritage but also aims to have a global impact. With a clear vision for growth and community empowerment, Kartik’s startup is set for a promising and expansive future, turning dreams into reality one fabric at a time.
